Your skin is unique. Nobody has the exact same skin as you. The most important step in caring for your skin comes in understanding your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances. In fact, your skin is your body’s largest organ, as complex and intelligent as your heart, lungs, liver and other vital organs.
Although everyone’s skin is unique, there are five primary skin types: Oily, Normal, Combination, Dry, and Sensitive. Understanding your skin type may help you find the right solutions to help achieve your skincare goals.
SKIN TYPES
1. Oily Skin
Oily skin refers to skin that has excess oil, most commonly throughout the t-zone of the face (forehead, nose, and chin). Oily skin tends to look shiny, feel greasy, and is often prone to blemishes and breakouts. The happy news however is that oily skin looks younger and more supple because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to wrinkle.
2. Normal Skin
Normal skin is well-balanced – not too dry or too oily. Those with normal skin are not typically prone to breakouts or flakiness and tend to have a balanced t-zone.
3. Combination Skin
Surprise, surprise. This is a combination of dry and oily skin. For those who have this skin type, their skin is typically shiny on the forehead, nose and chin, while appearing dry or normal on the cheeks.
4. Dry Skin
Dry skin generally feels tight, flaky, and can get irritated easily with an overall dehydrated look and feel. As oil tends to be the root of breakouts, you’ll notice that you’re less prone to acne.
5. Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin varies widely from person to person but is often characterized by visible redness and dryness — especially when you interact with new products or environments. Managing sensitive skin can be challenging, as it takes considerable time and effort to determine which ingredients cause inflammation and irritation.
